A Little Side Project

We’ve finally finished a little side project we’ve been working on – a bit of furniture.

Built in bed

It’s a built in bed and two side tables with drawers. Both the bed and the drawers hang off of a sheet of steel that is attached to the studs behind the wall. This allows them to cantilever off the wall (the bed has a small post that’s only visible if you look under the bed). So it gives the illusion of the bed and tables floating – a pretty neat effect.

Here’s a closer shot of one of the tables; they don’t have handles, you open them by reaching under and pulling on the plate steel front.

Bed drawer

We’re also close to finishing all the electrical in the house. We just have a few things in the kitchen and the exterior lighting to do. We’re really excited to be able to check this one off the list soon!

    Hi Guys

Have you commissioned the composting toilets yet?
Have you started collecting rain in the cistern ?
Are you going with thin film? or Silicon photovoltaic cells?

If you’re asking whether we’ve started using the composting toilets, the answer is no. However, we do have the unit in place. We haven’t yet started collecting rainwater because we haven’t yet built the filtering trough. We haven’t made a decision on solar yet, it’s going to happen a little bit down the road because of cost and the options are changing quickly. Thanks for the questions!
